What do YOU eat for dinner?

So Monday's meme didn't really pan out because I had something on my mind that I felt needed to be discussed. That is STILL on my mind and I STILL have things to discuss about it, but I will sit on it (Ha...Fonzie...sit on it...I'll stop now) for a day or so to try to gather my thoughts. Translated, this means that I will completely forget that I even mentioned it and may or may not get back to it. Because THAT my friends is how I roll.

Speaking of "rolling," I feel as though I am rolling around these days, so I decided to try to go "raw." It sounds dirty for some reason and my husband looked a little TOO excited (AND a bit scared) when I told him about it--until I explained that it in no way involves him or body parts (except for parts I want GONE from my body) and will really not hinder his way of life in any way shape or form. I finished day one and...I bet you think I am going to say, "I feel GREAT" here, but I really don't. I don't feel deprived either and I certainly don't feel hungry. I think I may be getting sick. THAT would put a damper on the data, now wouldn't it?

Back to YOU. What is the craziest "diet" (though they are ALL called "Way(s) of life" now) you have ever been on AND/OR what is the BEST diet (WAY OF LIFE) you have followed and liked. I really DON'T like the whole "DIET" thing--I was way too hard on my body years ago and now I REALLY just want to be healthy. That is why I am interested to hear from others about their experiences. I am intrigued by the Paleo "way of life," and am obviously interested in the "RAW...way of life," but I would love to hear stories from those of you who only ate bananas for a month or only eat bacon wrapped bacon with bacon and...bacon...you know...THOSE "way(s) of life..."

  1. I have never been one to try a crazy diet. I think I lasted two days on Atkins. Weight Watchers was introduced to me by a friend and I have to say it is the BEST diet our there. Most of the time it doesn't even feel like a diet because I can eat what I want. I just have to balance it with healthy options, too. It's all about making smart choices and proper portions. And after a few days the craving for fatty and sugary foods goes away. Even without exercise, the weight comes off. I went off when I injured my knee, but am joining again today. Last time I joined I lost 20 lbs. Now it's time to go 20 more.
Try it. You will love it! We can do this together!! It teaches you how to make the right choices, still enjoy "bad" food and dessert, and eat out without regret. A lifestyle change, not a fad diet. Pre-packaged meal plans and fads don't teach you how to eat in the real world. Can you tell I am a big WW fan?

    1. I agree with EVERYTHING yo wrote! When I taught at Colonial Forge, my friend, Kim gave me her WW books and I followed the points pretty well and even started to lose weight. Unfortunately, that is when I started to deteriorate healthwise, too, so that by the time we moved to Montana I was barely eating anything and was sick all the time. NORMAL people LOSE weight when they are sick and not eating, but not me! Now that I am [hopefully--fingers crossed!] getting better (and HAVE BEEN back to eating sensible meals...and not-so-sensible desserts(!), I thought I would try to do the raw thing--mostly for health, but would LOVE it if it worked for weight. My friend, Tom (or should I say, "My OTHER friend Tom?!) sent me info on the Paleo "lifestyle" because it helps people with autoimmune issues and other ailments. My friend Laura has been doing it and has her whole family like 70% Paleo now (which probably means as much to you as it did to me! Just know it is a GOOD thing!) and she is one of the most fit and healthy people I know (besides Tom--OTHER Tom (sorry!). As for WW, I think it IS one of the healthiest ways to go because you ARE simply aware of portion sizes and looking at what you put into your body. I would definitely be interested in "partnering up" with you--I just really want to give this whole "raw" thing a whirl to see if it helps with the medical end of my eating habits. Does that even make sense?! I've only eaten (what Addison calls) leafs and berries for the last two days (TOTALLY kidding!)--I have no control over my brain (or my typing fingers...)

    2. ...and YAY, YOU for losing TWENTY POUNDS?! THAT is awesome! Also, I should have sent a card when you had your surgery--I suck! I'm not even sure of what happened, but I hope you are doing well now!

  2. Okay I gained 60 pounds with Alex and 40 with Owen.. I cut out carbs after and walked allll the time. Our family happens to adore carbs though so it is a tough one, I still make my own bread. Always eat breakfast, even if it's just a banana or yogurt. I think a good half to hour walk a day and small snacks instead of not eating all day and then just having dinner. (I sometimes do that I'm fired)Always have a cheat day, I pick Sundays because I know what the week will bring lol and just eat what you want. If you buy healthy stuff like fruit and veggies, cut them up when you get home and then you have them in the fridge and don't have to cut them up when you want something to snack on because that takes time and it just gives you an excuse to have something not as good for you. I'm not a big fan of "diets" people go to the extreme. I think if your blood pressure, sugar and heart are good to go you should embrace the skin you're in. You would be amazed at how good walking feels though, not just for the body but for the noggin ;) love ya!

    1. I cannot even IMAGINE you with sixty extra pounds--You are so very little, it probably didn't even SHOW! I also did the carb thing after I had Brayden and it really started to work (until I got pregnant with Ryan!), but with all of my health issues I really want to try to eat healthier. That said, I really do think that eating lean proteins and limiting carbs is always going to be key--at least for my body, though I love that you make your own bread--YUM! I LOVE the idea of a cheat day or if you are not really dieting, giving yourself a break from only eating healthy foods one day a week. The convenience thing is so true--that's why I won't eat--because if I can't grab something healthy or if I am unsure of how healthy it is I will just decide not to eat to be safe. It's ridiculous, I know, but I get easily stressed about things like this! I do love a good walk on a nice day. The treadmill, not so much, though I still try to fit that in several times a week! Thanks for sharing--love you!

  3. I've never done well on any specific diet. I think mainly because I get easily bored with them. My best results came from simple portion control and keeping a food diary. Seeing how much I was actually eating, helped me cut back on snacks and opt for healthier food choices.

    1. Tara, the food journal is SO great! I came home from the Mayo Clinic last February and signed up for Spark People which is wonderful! I can't remember what happened to make me stop, but I think I will do it again. I was finding that I wasn't eating ENOUGH calories (believe it or not!) and that the calories I did eat weren't always the most nutritious! I liked it because it made me accountable and made me make the time for meals. If the link does not work for some reason, you can simply type Spark People into google (or whatever you use) and it should come right up for you. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I have always failed to keep to this diet thing. Rather I prefer to take diet pill that tends to inhibit hunger. Particularly I do more with African mango diet pills. But, trust my appetite nothing quenches it when it come to inviting fruity ice creams.

    1. Thanks for following! I've never had luck with pills--I guess because I eat because I like food--not because I am hungry. I DO have cravings for things like ice cream and would LOVE to go on the ICE CREAM diet! ;o) I'm glad to see you are following--if I'm not on yours yet, I will be soon!

  5. I feel like my life is one crazy diet. Atkins, Medifast, fat-free, cabbage, grapefruit, and now 17 Day Diet. The latest is by far the healthiest but damn if it isn't expensive.

    1. That's how I was--and then I decided to just try to eat healthy. WELL...because I wasn't eating enough (coupled with the crazy meds I was on), I blew up--it's awful! I think it is partly because I always went on crazy diets so my body is trying to protect itself! Even now I am intrigued with your 17 day diet, but I need to stay focused! I decided that as long as I am exercising regularly and eating healthy 90% of the time,I'm fine. God DID make fat people, too, so if I am one of them I need to simply embrace it and move on with my life! I focused on my body image for WAY TOO MANY years (http://anothertiredmommy.blogspot.com/2011/10/it-turns-out-i-used-to-be-hot.html) and now I just need to focus on my family and being healthy. Though it IS SO expensive to be healthy (AND to diet! Every time I would go on a diet I would probably spend like $200--EVERY TIME. No wonder my husband is embracing the "new" me--he can't afford for me to find ANOTHER diet..) I could afford the Twinkie and Hoho diet, though I couldn't afford the new wardrobe I would need after consuming Twinkies and Hohos every day! Nor could I afford the hospital bills when my body rejects them! Still, the 17 day diet, huh? It seems I'm an addict...
